Escape
Personal Project
Narrative:
In a world where the sea is overwhelmed by plastic, a turtle navigates through the chaos, dodging falling plastic bottles. Its journey is a testament to resilience and the fight for survival in an increasingly polluted ocean.
Goal:
I wanted to dive into the turtle's perspective, exploring a unique narrative and mastering the workflow of bringing a character to life through animation.
Process:
It was fun to bring a character to life in a short 40-second animation. It was a very challenging project, pushing my sculpting, animation, rigging, and storytelling skills. I used a range of programs like ZBrush, Cinema 4D,X-Particle, Redshift, Substance Painter, Adobe After Effects, and Adobe Premiere.
Storyboard:
I created a storyobard to help me create a story with the topic I wanted to explore.
Zbrush:
Sculpting the turtle took about 4 hours. It was an easy subject to sculpt since there weren't any complex shapes. The high-poly mesh was around 63 million polygons, so I used ZRemesher to create a low-poly version and extract the details from the high-poly object.
Substance Painter:
From the references I have collected, I had an idea of how I would texture the turtle and what I want it to look like.
Cinema 4D:
I used Cinema 4D as my main program for rigging, scene building, and rendering with Redshift. I watched videos of underwater scenes to understand how a turtle moves underwater. I used Xpresso to speed up the animation process.
After Effects:
I use After Effects for compositing and grading, enhancing the 3D visuals to create a captivating underwater atmosphere. The process adds depth and realism, making the animation truly immersive.
